Some Eastern Desert Ware, from
Lower
Nubia, is kept by the Náprstek Museum in Prague (above) and the
Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna (below). This material was given to
the museums after the UNESCO Nubian Salvage Campaign in the early
1960's.
|
A selection of sherds from Wadi Qitna
and
Kalabsha South, now in Prague (above), and from Sayala, now in Vienna
(below), were studied in August
2003 and September 2004 respectively. Twelve complete, or
reconstructed, vessels were
selected
for 3D photography.
|
Of the selected vessels
18 pictures were taken, each after the vessel was rotated 20°.
These
pictures can be combined into an, animated, 3D image. The same was done
with the ceramic coffee maker used by the current, nomadic, inhabitants
of the Eastern Desert.

The vessels from Lower
Nubia (Dodecaschoinos) were mostly
cups and bowls. One can be viewed by clicking the image
below, the rest at 'Archbase'
(password protected).

Ceramic vessels such as the
one below (a jabana)
are
currently
used, by the modern dwellers of the Eastern Desert, to
make a hot drink
of coffee, spices and sugar.
